Blogcraft—The Minecraft Blog.......by Alex

Today is our first Blogcraft post by Alex, a Nettelhorst student. Just reading it over, I've learned more than I've ever known about Minecraft (which, I admit, was nothing). Check out the links Alex recommends below, try your hand at his trivia questions and feel free to ask him questions in the comment section. Enjoy....

Overview

There are endless possibilities for just one blocky game. Minecraft has sold 35 million copies across all platforms, and could be stated as the most popular game in the world. You can do anything you like, from building a house to killing the Ender Dragon.

History

Minecraft started in 2009, by Marcus Persson, AKA Notch. It was originally called The Cave Game, later switched to Minecraft: Order of the Stone, then, simply Minecraft. Minecraft in 2009 was dirt, cobblestone, wood, and leaves and pretty much nothing more. This was called Minecraft Classic. In early 2010, Indev was released. This featured a new gamemode, known as survival mode. Minecraft moved into Alpha in the middle of 2010, featuring a new dimension, the Nether, and a ton of new blocks to the game. Then came Beta Minecraft, in late 2010, with tons of new mobs and hunger. Once Beta concluded, Minecraft 1.0 came out, and many updates later, we are here in 1.7.10 with so many possibilities.

Upcoming Features

Right now, Minecraft Pocket Edition and Minecraft PC edition are in the making of new updates. Firstly, Minecraft Pocket Edition will update on July 10, 2014. This is the biggest update in Pocket Edition history. It features infinite worlds, all the biomes of PC edition, and many new blocks and items.
